Hello.Hi, this is Chika from MACHICOCO staff.
Last Saturday, we held a "Basic Welding Course" at the Machikoko Skills School! The instructor was the president of Toyosato Metal Industry, a company specializing in precision sheet metal processing. He's a sheet metal processing professional and can also perform various types of welding as a secondary processing step. That's why he agreed to be our instructor. For example, he made this for us ▼
(The story of how they acquired their skills is truly touching 😭)
The participant in this course said, "I am a product designer,I came here because I want to do some DIY welding myself.Even people outside the industry who say, "!", say, "For business purposes"Some people in the manufacturing industry want to learn welding.
It starts with classroom lectures. What is welding? Let's start from the very basics.
What keywords and symbols should I know? What is the principle of welding?
What is "beveling" and why is it necessary?Arc welding, TIG welding... there are many types, but what is it?

I performed TIG welding and CO2 welding. Even though I understood the work in theory, there were many things I only realized after experiencing it. Welding isn't done by machine; it's done by hand.
"So this is how you're supposed to hold it...!" "The timing is tricky." "Is this about the right distance?"When you actually get your hands dirty on site,You'll gradually understand the technique through physical experience.
Welding is a technique that utilizes all five senses and is even considered an art form. What does it mean to be "skilled" in welding?
There were also many stories from the perspective of a craftsman.
Questions from participants include:
"Which welding method is best for DIY welding?"
"What are some safety precautions we should take?"
They deepened their learning through their own observations, such as "Why are the base material and the solvent different colors?"
And so, after deepening our learning through physical experience and knowledge, the final step was...
