I'm a huge fan of the Keihan Railway, and I came across a production example that really got me excited, so I'd like to share it with you.

This project involves reproducing frames with hand-slotted sabots like these.
A casting manufacturer contacted us with a request for about 10 pieces of "equal parts to the actual railway parts." Casting would involve creating molds and other major work... Since this wasn't a mass production, another manufacturing method would be better, but how? So they contacted MACHICOCO.
We had a metal fabrication shop make the frame for us. They created three parts using laser cutting and machining, and then welded them together.
It turned out so beautifully!
Incidentally, being unfamiliar with the manufacturing process, I was thinking, "What is can manufacturing...? Do they make cans...?" when the president laughed and explained that it involves sheet metal processing.They explained the differences in sheet metal fabrication processes.
Sheet metal is used for industrial parts and decorative metalwork.Apparently, metal fabrication is mainly used for ships, trains, and buildings.
So it supports heavy industry, huh?
And then! The finished frame was painted by a paint shop like this, and it's complete!
It's sparkling!! So pretty!
Wow, it's amazing! Ah... I can't get enough... I can't get enough. These are reproductions of old-style train parts... it gets me excited. So emotional.
I enjoy buying railway parts because they become available when trains are retired or used parts are sold off, but there's a different kind of joy in buying brand new reproductions! Wow, I'd love to hear what enthusiasts think about that.
