Development and mass production of programming educational materials

Client: Major manufacturer/educational materials manufacturer

Developed a can sorting machine using micro:bit as educational material.

We were commissioned to develop educational materials for children to learn programming. We received a sample made as a mockup, and product development for mass production has begun.
We also considered using corrugated plastic for production, but after much discussion with engineers regarding sales costs, strength, and productivity,
We are proceeding with the enclosure design and circuit board design, and then manufacturing. It will be used as rental educational material, and we will be handling the operation.
We are undertaking this work.

The story from initial request to completion

Details of your request

I want to proceed with the creation of programming learning materials for students.
We have a sample that was made by hand, but we want to create a specification that allows for inexpensive mass production.

High difficulty, troublesome

Designing the placement of the two types of proximity sensors and microswitches was very challenging. They had to be placed with precise dimensions.
Assembly was required, and we had to make quite a few adjustments on the sheet metal side.
The requirements for children to use it are that it doesn't cause injuries, doesn't break, and is easy to use.
This was the case, and we repeatedly tested and tried various solutions, such as unplugging and replugging the cable.
We had to come up with a lot of ideas to meet our desired price. Also, it was a time of semiconductor shortages.
Procurement was very difficult. (This issue has now been resolved.)

Connect the servo motor and perform the inspection.
Wiring and assembly to the circuit board
From package design to boxing.
