Hello.Hi, this is Chika from MACHICOCO staff. We recently held a local factory experience tour, so I'll give you a vivid report of what it was like!
Enjoy this as if you were visiting a local factory on this public holiday! 😊
Our guest this time was a university professor. "When it comes to tourist attractions in Higashi-Osaka, it's definitely the local factories! I want to see and experience them firsthand, talk to the craftsmen, and then tell my students about them," he said with a sparkling face. Coincidentally, the university where he works is the alma mater of Machikoko's representative, Toya! So, we hit it off and the local factory tour began!
Making iron legs with a metalworking pro.
First, we headed to Matsushita Works, a welding factory! Welder "Sako-chan" gave us a tour of the factory and explained "What is welding?".
The welding we'll be experiencing this time is the aesthetically pleasing 'TIG welding,' but what will really amaze you and make you think, "Wow, professionals are amazing...!" is thisItems found in a stylish meeting space.
Desks, window frames, interior boards, kitchen stands... everything is handmade by Matsushita Kogyosho. He said, "I welded this part," but the result is unbelievable!
And for those of you who are curious, what's on this desk...?
This tour includes the opportunity to make small shelves and pen holders, samples demonstrating the welding process, and handmade works by welder Sako-chan! The swing is so cute! 😍
Matsushita Kogyo Co., Ltd. TwitterPlease check that out as well.
This time we're making a small shelf. We'll actually do some welding to make the legs! Crackle, crackle. You'll feel like a real craftsman.
It's finished! When you actually try it yourself, you really understand how difficult a craftsman's skill is!
After that, they talked about what kind of work a craftsman does.
"There are some skills that you can't learn just by being taught by a senior colleague; you have to acquire them through intuition, right?"
"That's right. You develop your intuition by practicing with various things."
Let's paint those iron legs beautifully and stylishly!
Next, we're off to Futaba Painting, a painting factory! They'll give the iron legs we just made a cool makeover in a matte black.
You might think painting is as simple as just slapping on a coat, but it actually involves preparation like removing fine dust and debris. The paint shouldn't be too thin or too thick. It needs to be applied evenly to every surface.
...and many other advanced techniques! I wonder how well I can do it? I'm getting fired up!
They bake it in a huge kiln, and they exclaim, "It's so hot! It's really hot!"
While it's cooling down...
President of Futaba Painting“Fukae-chan and the participants did a stand-up comedy routine... or rather (is that right? lol)
Where is painting used? What kind of thoughts and feelings are put into it? And many other topics.
↑ "Are the kanji correct...? Oh, thank goodness! I get so nervous in front of the teacher!"
It's fun. Lol
"Through painting, we want to make our customers' lives more enjoyable, spark conversations, and bring smiles to their faces. That's what we mean by 'beauty'."”"sayThat's the definition."
They were very enthusiastic about the ideas behind launching the product.
And the "small shelf" is complete!
Now we'll make the wooden shelf section. Cut it to your desired length.
Then, I attached it to the cool legs I made by welding and painting. And... the "small shelf" is complete!
So, after visiting several factories, it was quite an eventful day.
Use all your senses and experience craftsmanship in a place you've never seen before. It's sure to be a fresh and interesting day.
