Financier mold production for Kindai Tuna

Client: Amarin Kinki University

We propose a financier mold inspired by tuna.

Amarin Kinki University, which operates aquaculture in Wakayama.
I want to create tuna products aimed at young people, originating from Wakayama.
It's important that it tastes good. We're thinking of having it made by Taiyo Foods in Wakayama as a new souvenir item.
I received a response from Taiyo Foods that it would be possible if the mold could be made, so I would like to have a mold made for financiers.
We are hoping to sell these to school officials, parents, students, and school staff who will be distributing them to them.
The design's theme is "passing, getting accepted, and feeling happy."
The message to the exam candidates is, "Attack like Kinki University's tuna!"
We received a request to create a financier made solely with aggressively flavored tuna, and we decided to redefine the concept of a financier.
We proposed a financier mold shaped like a tuna as a new design. We proceeded with the production of the mold.

Product Data

material

SPCC (steel) plate, 1.0 mm thick.

Product Development and Manufacturing Process

① Propose a tuna design.
We will create 3D data from the illustrations and then consider the design.
② Financier test.
We will conduct baking tests on financiers using aluminum cutting. We will also check the shape of the tuna, etc.
③ First prototype
Sheet metal pressing → Welding (spot) → Teflon coating
Two samples were made using sheet metal pressing, and a baking test was conducted using a financier mold.
We performed verification and modified the model.
④ Mass production
We manufactured and delivered 80 mass-production molds.

The story from initial request to completion

Details of your request

I don't understand anything technical, so I'd like you to propose feasible designs and construction methods.
A typical financier wouldn't stand out, so we need something that is uniquely Kinki University and impactful.
I want to turn this into a product.
I'd like you to propose a plan and design that takes sales into consideration.

High difficulty, troublesome

The biggest challenge was shaping the iron plate into the form of a tuna.
The fin area in particular. Its shape made it prone to cracking when the metal was stretched.
As designs and samples are presented, the customer's imagination begins to expand.
Requests are increasing. At that time, it's not that designers and technicians can't do it.
We proceeded by proposing feasible methods.
Even though it may be technically challenging, the finished product will be truly unique. We will fulfill the customer's wishes.
It was difficult to bring it to fruition, but it was the most important point, so communication with the engineers was crucial.
I carefully crafted it into a tangible form.

Can it really be done with a mold? We tested it using the mold we made at Machikoko.
Confirmed that it can be processed.
Grilled tuna with a design
I will test it.
A second test will be conducted according to your preference.
Final test to determine which tuna is best.
The shape was finalized, and we moved on to the final test.
Burning test with sheet metal mold
We will mass-produce it.
Completed!
It will be available for purchase from December.
